\"Camperships\"UPDATED 08\/07\/2016:<\/strong> So far this season we have awarded 108 camperships, enabling campers to experience the fun, excitement, and benefits of The Watersports Camp.\u00a0 We are thankful for the support of many generous individuals and organizations who are committed to making sure that the benefits of camp are\u00a0available to all kids.\u00a0 In addition to the many families who have chosen to pitch in to send a kid to camp during registration, many generous organizations provide grants to support camperships including the San Diego Yacht Club Sailing Foundation<\/a>, TK Foundation, Torrey Pines Kiwanis Foundation<\/a>, and California Division of Boating and Waterways<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Major Andy Budenz<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The campership program at The Watersports Camp seeks to ensure that the benefits of camp participation are accessible to all youth regardless of financial status.\u00a0 In 2015 over $35,000 in camperships were awarded to over 150 San Diego area at-risk or under-represented youth. The Major Andy Budenz Campership, in memorial of a past member of the MBAC team, provides a week of wakeboarding camp to a child of a US military member who has been deployed or has given their life in service to our country.<\/p>\n

“All kids should be given a chance to experience a week of watersports camp regardless of their background or family\u2019s financial situation,\u201d\u00a0 shared Morgan McGee, The Watersports Camp Administrator.\u00a0\u00a0 \u201cI love being able to award kids the opportunity to try something that may turn into a lifelong passion.”<\/p>\n

Morgan also stated that there is still some funding available for families in need this summer. Camperships are awarded based on financial need on a sliding scale set by the YMCA of San Diego County. If you know someone that would benefit from a fun-filled week of camp, have them complete a YMCA Scholarship Application<\/a> and return it to MBAC for consideration.<\/p>\n

You too can help send a kid to camp by making a donation during camp registration or by visiting www.watersportscamp.com\/donate<\/a>. \u00a0Contributions\u00a0over $250 will receive written acknowledgment of your donation and 100% of the funds will be\u00a0used to help a deserving child create life-long friendships and memories at camp.<\/p>\n
