San Diego Coast Keeper<\/a>\u00a0is encouraging concerned citizens and Mission Bay users to show up\u00a0on April 10th to tell the Regional Water Quality Control Board to curb stormwater runoff.\u00a0 The Regional Board will host its adoption hearing on the MS4 stormwater permit<\/a>\u00a0with intentions of allowing the public to use its voice and draw a line on how important clean water is to each and every one of us.<\/p>\n

The MS4 storm water permit<\/a>\u00a0sets the provisions for what the City of San Diego\u00a0has to do to\u00a0divert stormwater runoff\u00a0directly into the ocean and bay without being treated.\u00a0 San Diego Coast Keeper has been hard at work for over a year to include provisions into the permit that help reduce or prevent the amount of pollution that rainwater runoff carries into our bays\/oceans and thus prevent us from enjoying aquatic activities.<\/p>\n

The last two times the permit\u00a0has\u00a0been adopted San Diego Coast Keeper and the community were successful in implementing more stringent requirements into the\u00a0development plan for stormwater runoff.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Jill Witkowski,\u00a0Coast Keeper’s Voice of the Water<\/em> in charge of policy, strongly believes that if enough people passionate about clean water\u00a0show up to the meeting, important modifications drafted by\u00a0Coast Keeper\u00a0will be implemented in the permit.<\/p>\n

Says Witkowski, “Our chances are really great, especially if enough concerned citizens who love to use the water show up and share their stories and experiences\u00a0about how important clean water is to them.”<\/p>\n

Of particular concern to Coast Keeper is a provision in this permit that frees the City from liability\u00a0for\u00a0pollution that occurs if there is currently a plan to\u00a0attempt to prevent it.<\/p>\n

The meeting will be held\u00a0April 10th\u00a0at 4pm at the Regional Water Board Room located at:<\/p>\n
