This was one of the most memorable beach clean-ups to date with volunteers collecting some unique and unusual items!<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"389\" src=\"https:\/\/mbaquaticcenter.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/blog-cleanup-3.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3032\" srcset=\"https:\/\/mbac.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/blog-cleanup-3.jpg 600w, https:\/\/mbac.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/blog-cleanup-3-275x178.jpg 275w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Within a two-mile radius, there were <em>eight bags full of debri<\/em>s cleared from Mission Bay and Mission Beach. In addition, over <em>89 non-recyclable styrofoam pieces<\/em> were cleared and <em>481 pieces of plastic.<\/em> <br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Objects found during the cleanup also included: <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>46 plastic bags <\/li><li>676 cigarette butts<\/li><li>16 pieces of glass<\/li><li>298 food wrappers<\/li><li>74 straws<\/li><li>22 glass bottles<\/li><li>Shopping cart <\/li><li>Headphones <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"389\" height=\"600\" src=\"https:\/\/mbaquaticcenter.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/blog-cleanup-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3033\" srcset=\"https:\/\/mbac.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/blog-cleanup-2.jpg 389w, https:\/\/mbac.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/blog-cleanup-2-115x178.jpg 115w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 389px) 100vw, 389px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>How long does it take for trash to decompose in the ocean? <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>A tin can that entered the ocean in 1986 is still decomposing in 2036<\/li><li>A glass bottle that entered the ocean in 1986 is going to still decompose in year 1,001,986<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"389\" src=\"http:\/\/mbaquaticcenter.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/clean_up.jpg\" alt=\"Cleanup Beach\" class=\"wp-image-620\" srcset=\"https:\/\/mbac.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/clean_up.jpg 600w, https:\/\/mbac.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/clean_up-275x178.jpg 275w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>With these efforts, the MBAC has helped stop the spread of litter and marine debris. Prevention is the solution to a polluted ocean.
