Laura Carney came to Mission Bay Aquatic Center through her inspiring journey of completing her late father’s bucket list that was discovered after he passed. We had the opportunity to help Laura cross off her father’s goal of “learning to sail by myself” when she took our Basic Sailing class in October. Laura has been documenting her progress finishing the bucket list through her blog, “myfatherslist,” and Instagram @myfatherslist. She is currently writing a book about her experience. She shared with us her inspiration to start her blog as well as her exciting adventure in learning to sail.

One of the most frequently asked questions about ENS watersports classes is “How do I get there from campus?” More and more students are coming to SDSU without a car, and beginning Fall 2019 incoming freshman living on campus will not be permitted to have a car their first year. While it might seem like not having a car is a roadblock to taking a class off campus, there are plenty of other ways to get from SDSU to Mission Bay Aquatic Center, and we have listed them below.

Mission Bay Aquatic Center is gearing up summer by saying goodbye to the old and hello to the newest upgrade for our sailing program. After recently upgrading our Hobie Catamarans, we are revamping our sailing equipment again by introducing a fleet of state-of-the-art RS Quest sailboats to replace our well-loved, but tired, Holder 14s.

Support accessible watersports by purchasing tickets to San Diego Festival of the Arts
The San Diego Festival of the Arts is back on June 8th and 9th at Waterfront Park! This annual event features live music, local cuisine, and works of fine art from nearly 200 world-renowned artists, with raffle, silent auction, and wine and beer garden. Proceeds directly support MBAC adaptive watersports programs for persons with disabilities.

Protecting Our Ocean: 50 pounds of trash collected at MBAC Beach Cleanup
Mission Bay Aquatic Center and 51 community volunteers cleared over 24 pounds of trash and 26 pounds of recycling during the beach cleanup on April 14th! This was one of the most memorable beach clean-ups to date with volunteers collecting some unique and unusual items!
